Re: Heineken Cup 2021/22
Feels like Ulster are the mugs in this whole Champions Cup debacle.
Re: Heineken Cup 2021/22
This format has seen a few sides who have already qualified/going into Challenge Cup white flag this weekend re COVID cases and giving their squads a rest etc.
Re: Heineken Cup 2021/22
So by my calculations
Beat Clermont by an 88 point difference to top the group.... nah forget that one
A win of any description will see us 2nd to play 7th play Toulouse.
The only permutations whereby this does not happen is if Wasps pick up 2 or more points at Thomond and / or.....
A defeat (we must not talk of this) brings La Rochelle and Exeter into play of catching us and we slip down to 3rd or 4th, to play Bordeaux, Connacht, or potentially Wasps if they gain a win.
No.9 predictor says
Toulouse 60%
Wasps 20%
Bordeaux 15%
Connacht 5%

If I have got this right, we could go to Toulouse, lose by more than 29 points and then Toulouse could shout COVID and still win the tie. Is that correct?

Maybe there's a hidden contigency plan.

If Toulouse beat us by more than 29 points away, I'd be happy not to sit through the home gamewaggonsroll wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 5:23 pm If I have got this right, we could go to Toulouse, lose by more than 29 points and then Toulouse could shout COVID and still win the tie. Is that correct?

I would assume the 28-0 is only relevant to the pool stages.

If covid strikes a draw is a fair enough result but never more than a 4 pts winning margin!

Re: Heineken Cup 2021/22
Lets not forget we have a trip to South Africa for 2 weeks prior to the last 16 game. That worked out well for URC teams recently.
Hopefully the covid situation will have dampened by then but could you blame management for leaving a core of players at home? The other way is to bring everyone out there and treat it as 2 weeks warm weather prep and keep to a tight bubble.

Can anyone tell me in the last 16 does the top team get home advantage in the first leg?

Just for clarification Neil, to avoid Toulouse we need Stade to hump Connacht by 35 with a TBP or Wasps to get at least 2 points in Limerick?

Serious drinking last night Availed of the bar services and also our pre-planned secret stash
200ml of Spanish brandy always does the trick. I have a 2 pint limit on the stout because I refuse to go for a leak during a match - increasingly difficult as you get older

Wasps are capable of pulling something out here, they've beaten Toulouse already in the tournament albeit at home, however they played 45 minutes with 14 men after a red card. Wasps are also the only team to have beaten Tigers in any competition this season. No mugs.big mervyn wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 11:59 am Just for clarification Neil, to avoid Toulouse we need Stade to hump Connacht by 35 with a TBP or Wasps to get at least 2 points in Limerick?
I don't think it's the 11 point handicap the bookies are offering.
Wasps forum reckon they are short on beef in the back row but extremely mobile. May counteract Beirne. Very excited by their centre partnership. Concern on POM entering rucks at all angles, only using his shoulder. Confident their back three will happily take on Murray kicking the leather off the ball all day.
