Re: Heineken Cup 2021/22
Are the 2 legged matches purely points differential? For example number of tries scored is irrelevant unless there is a tie and no bonus point consideration?

In the last few years at least, I think we have a pretty good record against the English and French in general.big mervyn wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 6:41 pm Played Toulouse 11 times W 5 D 1 L 5
Covid permitting, these ties will make them the team Ulster have faced most often outside of the other sides in our domestic league edging ahead of Leicester and Stade Francais both on 11
Btw: does anyone know if a 2 legged tie counts as one match or two for statistical purposes? I'm assuming 2
5-6 Stade
We're clise to 50:50 overall against bith English and French sides

Yup, potentially derby QF and SF with Leinster and Connacht on same side of draw as Ulster.

Toulouse weren’t happy about their game being called off, no doubt fearful of the prospect of facing Ulster.
I’m not unhappy about playing them given that it’s actually Bordeaux who are top of the pile at the minute and we don’t have Kolbe to worry about this time around.
There’s also a pleasing symmetry to the draw, after we were prevented from going there a couple of years and the hope that it could be a watershed time in terms of the end of COVID disruption.

Iulster could have conspired to get Connacht but would have sacrificed any advantage after that.
The 1st leg is massive. Any significant deficit Will pose huge practical and psycholigical challenges for the return.

Get back to Spanner’s with a fifteen point defect at worst then I think the place will be buzzing. Just kick every available penalty in the 1st leg and let out back line pepper them in the second.
Our inability to close out matches in recent months is a huge worry however. We just seem unable of keeping our foot on their throats.

Likely to be a tight turnaround too so SID could be a problem again.germcevoy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 1:57 pm Get back to Spanner’s with a fifteen point defect at worst then I think the place will be buzzing. Haven't looked at the stats but I'm pretty sure that with a few notable exceptions, Ulster have invariably come off worse on aggregate scores against French sides
