Great signing....injuries and fitness permitting. Fingers crossed til after the Nov internationals that he arrives in one piece. Could be a very exciting pack.

Jordi, Timoney, Vermeulen sounds a tasty prospect. Hopefully he stays fit

Sean Reidy might have something to say about that.

Rea Jr needs to stake a claim this year.

McCann has time on his side, but if he's as good as we think he needs to also lay a claim this season. Caelon Doris is 22 months older and is just shy of his 10 Irish cap.

54 Springbok caps 3 tries
68 Toulon appearances 2 tries
13 Kubota Spears appearances 3 tries
29 Bulls appearances 2 tries

Just to highlight we're not getting a try scorer.

However, he's more rounded and team orientated than Marcell the Mercenary

He's a better player than Coetzee, we'd never have been able to sign Vermuelen at Coetzee's age.

The Coetzee cash has been invested very well there. Passing on Nakarawa looking like a great move now.

I'd like to see what he delivers before putting him in the Pienaar and Muller category. If he makes it to the Sexton Kempson category, he'll do for me. :fleg: :thumleft:

Some would have McCann in the nursery if they could. Give him 10mins against Zebre when he's 29.

Ulster have always been timid in " blooding" young players, especially forwards, and might be related to very seldom having the confidence in closing out a winning game early, and allowing younger players to be merged into match conditions.
Yes , 10 mins against Zebre when he is 29, when we can say he isn't as good as we thought e was.

Massive signing and gives us a real lift. I think his influence on the young back rows coming through could set up a bit of a legacy- not just McCann but some of the guys like Sheridan, McNabney etc coming through the system. Could really drive forward the culture of the squad like Muller did. Plus I think his age means he won't be playing every game so the younger guys will get their chances.

He's the dogs bollix all right. We've been here before of course, but I've always felt that Brad Thorne was the single biggest transitional signing that elevated Leinster from pretenders to contenders, so lets hope there is the same chemistry with Duane and the team as that, personally feel he has more versatility than Coetzee. Respect must go to management for this and for keeping it under the radar.

As an aside, the Leinster and Connacht women could be forgiven for asking are they not worth a decent clean changing facility for, guessing, ten percent of Duane's signing on fee (not complaining as an Ulsterman but just remarking)!
