Connacht v Ulster Sat Oct 23rd 5:15pm KO

Post by Neill_M »

TV - Premier Sports 2 / TG4 / Super Sport (SA) / URC TV (Not in UK/SA)

Only 8,000 crowd apparently according to media reports....that strategy has backfired for Connacht if true. Restrictions now lifted re crowds down South. Could have had a full capacity Sportsground (around 8k), Captain Hindsight and all that I know.

So about the same as a full sports ground. It is certainly better for Ulster. Potentially more Ulster fans than would be heading to Galway. It could erode the feel of home advantage for them. Big Stu and hendo back in the mix would be handy.

IRFU tempting Connacht to give up home advantage for the sake of a few quid which likely won’t materialise. Tough deal.

Who in their right mind would expect 30k for Connacht vs Ulster in Leinster?

People seemed to be assuming a large "Galway ex Pats" crowd in Dublin.

Without realising that most of them would take advantage of a bank holiday weekend to travel back to galway.

Basically the KO time is wrong for Ulster and Connaught fans both sets of supporters will arrive home at time when it's to late to socialise and Dublin overnight is an expense too much after lockdown with money tight .

They were never going to get 30,000 but I certainly would have expected more than 8,000. It was a decent idea for Connacht to try and recoup some Covid losses and fair play to the powers that be for loaning Aviva free of charge. I still wonder if the tickets will have a last minute surge because people won't be stressed about buying early since they know it can never sell out and tickets will be available on the day. If I was in Dublin I'd probably wait and see how I felt on Saturday afternoon and if I fancied it, dander over and buy a ticket at the gate. I wonder if a lot of others are thinking the same thing.

Bookies have it as a tight game Ulster as the slight favourites with a 3.5 point difference on the handicap. I very much doubt, whomever the winner is, that the margin will be so tight. The way both teams are trying to play will result in one team getting hoked - I'm just not sure which one. Did Connacht exhaust themselves against Munster, or will they come into this game fired up with everything to prove? Will Ulster get any of their first XV back, and if they do, will the first XV players actually be better than the A's?

You’d also think that any self-respecting rugby fan from Dublin would rock up too, if only to watch their old schoolmates play.

Connacht are in desperation territory and will see this as a must win game. We haven't really had to fire a shot yet and unless we get the attitude right we could get smashed. Could really to with stu, Jacob and baloucoune back and hendo would be a nice surprise.
