Trip to Northampton

Post by PlayAwayStayAway »

Stay for free with a friendly fan on Ulster's trip to Northampton

I run Host a Fan www.hostafan - a host community of like-minded rugby supporters hosting one another on their away matches.

If you've got your ticket and fed up of rising hotel and airbnb prices or if you're weighing up going to Northampton for the Heineken Cup clash in January, we've got you covered.

We've got a number of Northampton fans happy to host travelling Ulster fans for your game at Franklin's Gardens.

Join the community & search for a host for your next away trip here: www.hostafan.co or send me a message and I'll be happy to help.

Is that your general assumption about every opposition rugby fan you encounter?

You can't take any chances.
I saved Grumps from being done to death in Limerick.

I like the idea all the same.

Not Grumps being done to death, staying with other fans.

It’s probably not a bad alternative to staying at the Ibis with HWM.

Nice idea.
Do you, by any chance, also operate an industrial cleaning/fumigation business?
Can I come out from behind the sofa yet?

Haha thank you & yes, I know it's not for everyone but the overwhelming majority of rugby supporters are keen on the idea and we have a number of members from across the URC and UK now. Just trying to keep up the momentum and keep building.

Jays, I wish I did! It'd be making me more money than this business - although that's not very hard at all!

Away and chase yersel. No chance he was doing me to death that day - He was just annoyed because I sympathised with him on Munster's defeat. Thought I was rubbing salt in his wounds.

You may also recall that we had a great experience with just 3 of us amongst hundreds of Munster fans on another visit. The only sad part of that day was that it was the day Jack Kyle passed away. Munster fans couldn't have been more respectful, and there was a fine tribute to the great man before the match. (at least I think it was that trip you and I were together but deliberately went to the other side of the ground from the main Ulster support for a change ... and to get away from HWM).

Seriously though, on one occasion I did go into the loos in Thomond on my own and one guy did pull a (small) knife on me. He was fairly drunk and I might easily have escaped him as he could hardly stand, but a couple of Munster supporters stepped in between us anyway and held him up as they suggested I make a discreet exit which I duly did.

Got to admit though that's the only remotely dicey thing in many years of away matches, and my overall impression of away fans has always been positive . . . . apart from Sorries and Leinster, . . .and some Weegies in recent years since they moved to Scotstooon. Hughenden was always a great trip with some great hospitality by the home team and their fans.

Leinster in the old Donkeybrook was a great experience, but as Leinster started to dominate, their newer fans started to become unbearable. Sorries fans that travel to away matches are great guys, but too outnumbered at home by morose auld sods that wouldn't even give you the time of day if you tried to interact with them. Not nasty in any way - just ignore ya, and no fun at all.

Gotta say the best fans I have come across on away trips have been at Northampton, with Leicester a very close second. Great craic, win or lose for both sets of fans.
I'm not arguing -
I'm just explaining why I'm right
