The expectation that senior club 2xv are on a par with most top junior sides is becoming a fallacy. They only tend to beat them when the 1sts don't have a game.

Time will tell on AIL 2nd xv compared to 1st xv
Hard to judge in first round of games, queens for example largely had probable 2nd xv playing last Thursday so their “2nd” xv to play Cooke would have been very weak. Still have fair chunk of students to make it back to Belfast too. Qualifying league will be interesting this year. Outside bet Cooke to be challenging for top spot

Probably more of a reflection of Instonians' strength than anything else.

Ulster Branch will tell you there are more people than ever playing rugby. But they now include women's and youth team in their figures. The last time I looked at their lists of men's teams they were inaccurate. One of the teams included was shown as having 3 teams whereas they field one side. Another club no longer fields any teams but is still affiliated.

Did I hear the three teams are fielding additional teams this year, Instonians, Carrick and whoever Carrick were playing, it might have been Ballyclare? Is it good news or are they taking players from other clubs?

Carrick, Instonians and Ballyclare fielding an additional adult male team this season. Testament to the hard work that goes on at youth level and the social element of the clubs. Guys play rugby with their mates and have fun. Few beers after a hard game still has massive value.

Thanks, it is a good news story and hope others can look at replicating it.

Clogher v Instonians should be a hotly contested game. Clogher really gunning for this whilst hearing that Instonians are rotating squad in preparation for AIL. Will give clogher an idea of how they will fare in AIL rugby.
