Dementia risks from playing rugby.

This gets discussed in patches around other threads. It's a serious issue. Dementia is a bloody awful thing. Where does rugby go from here? Is it possible to make the game safer?

Good questions.

Do we know how the noble art of trying to punch someone’s lights out seems to be going under the radar here?

Sounds like the whole lot of them should have CTE.

I was reading about greater instances of CTE in rugby/nfl was because (in theory) any collision can cause trauma to the brain. Your brain whacks around inside your skull like an onion in a bag. Even if it isn't a direct head collision or concussion. It's the increased force now in the game that has potentially increased the liklihood.

I'm all for making rugby safer, however it happens. Looking back, collisions today are more brutal than in the past and I wouldn't doubt that permanent brain damage is increasing. My only quibble is if suing the various agencies is the best way forward. The specific issues mentioned in the BBC reports should surely give a strong direction to how the game might change.

I also recognise that financial costs are attendant to dementia but I wonder if legal action is the most efective way to bring some help to sufferers and their families.

Pretty damning article on the SRU's treatment of this poor girl and her family.

I've read the article also, heartbreaking. However without being disingenuous it's an opinion based article.

Theres no clincical evidence to dam the SRU here, it could also be a mental health issue not brought on my a knock to the head.
