Scarlets v Ulster Saturday September 24th 1pm KO - Premier Sports 1 / Super Sport / URC TV

Post by Neill_M »

Anyone picked for this Emerging Ireland Tour will not be available for the Scarlets game, but the returning internationals from New Zealand will be available for selection - injury permitting (so no Henderson / Hume).

So no Reid, Stewart, Izuchukwu, Doak, McDonald, Flannery, Moore, Baloucoune & McIlroy BUT get Herring, O'Toole, Treadwell, Timoney & Lowry.

Vermeulen on the bench for the Boks this weekend for info.

I for one think there might be a couple of changes in the back row and maybe the second row but a similar backline the only possible change being Doak if Cooney is fit.

Otherwise if both Doak and Cooney are unavailable place kicking might be a lottery, With 2 and 3 point opportunities going begging.

Welsh teams are unpredictable opposition at the best of times but dry grounds usually suit the Scarlets style of play .

Our options then:

LH: EOS, Warwick (if fit), Saunderson
Hookers: Herring, Andrew, Moore, McCormick
TH: Moore, O’Toole, JTA, Milasinovich, Wilson
Locks: AOC, Treadwell, Carter, FBR, Hopes
BR: Timoney, Mar Rea, Reffell, McCann, Murphy, Mat Rea, Jones, Sheridan, Crothers, McNabney, McLoughlin
SH: Cooney (if fit), Shanahan, McKee
FH: Burns, Madigan, Humphreys
Centres: McCloskey, Marshall, Curtis, Carson
Back 3: Stockdale, Lowry, Sexton, Lyttle, Gilroy, O’Brien, Telfer

Assuming Hendy, Hume, Addison, Moxham and Postlethwaite are all still out with injury. LH and SH areas of concern.

Would personally go for: EOS, Andrew, Moore, AOC, Treadwell, Mar Rea, Reffell, McCann, Shanahan, Burns, Stockdale, McCloskey, Marshall, Sexton, Lowry
Subs - Herring, Warwick, O’Toole, Carter, Timoney, Cooney, Curtis, Lyttle and give Herring, Warwick, TOT, Timoney and Cooney the second half.

The Ulster Rugby Medical Performance team has issued a squad update ahead of Saturday’s Round 2 BKT United Rugby Championship fixture versus Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets.

Ulster Rugby has no new injury concerns following Saturday’s Interpro victory over Connacht Rugby in the season opener of the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Currently unavailable due to injury are Iain Henderson (hand), James Hume (groin), Will Addison (lower leg) and Jude Postlethwaite (knee).

Squad updates in association with The Ulster Independent Clinic.

Ah 1st game in, win 36-10 at home and the Willy bashing has commenced. 😂
I think we are going to see a masterclass from Will, Jacob, Rob and Lukey this year (with the odd cameo from the Stu’s and Hume). Will’s bad luck has to end sometime.

>appl if he played could maybe bash him, Addison came with a poor injury record, nothing has changed, saw a lot to like with Moore at full back on Saturday, good distribution when stepping into the 2nd receiver position. Would like to see him with another half dozen games there under his belt.

Marshall was terrific on Saturday. Postlewaithe to overtake Stu, would have been on Emerging Ireland tour if fit.

Fair enough but his current long term injury could have happened to anyone.
And he is a class act who offers a different attacking dimension

A bold prediction when Stu is in the form of his life! If Postlethwaite overtakes him at the minute he should be on the Ireland team never mind the emerging Ireland team.
