GP after two routine raised resultss has referred me as priority Red flag to consultants. No appointments available until early March. So going privately tomorrow evenibg. Fingers crossed.

Prostate cancer is slow --- there is no need to rush and spend 3k --(That advice is based on the worst possible outcome which is not always the case even after and MRI thus sleep easy still )

Bobby don't worry greatly about the biopsy

There are two types TRUS and TPUS examples of both are are on YOUTUBE

I have had both the TRUS in 2014 ( pre the days of MRI before biopsy ) and it is a procedure -- not without risk

My last Biopsy was a 39 core freehand template TPUS during the procedure ( due to my age the consultant said " I don't want to have to call him back " hence the 39 cores ) --- I had a large prostate

Most if not all are now TPUS image guided TPUS biopsies and the risks are substantially less - the most likely after effect may be AUR but this depends on the size of the Prostate and the number of cores taken .

Thus the questions to ask are

What method is to be used and How many cores are going to be taken ?

Remember alotalota men have had the procedure and survived !!!!

Your do I or don't I country thus the consultants advice -- better to know than left wondering

As previously stated the only difference between the NHS and private might be the speed you get the results but if negative you file goes to a Multidisciplinary Committee who size up the options and appoint the consultant to follow though what they consider the best option and whether further scans etc are necessary -- thus going for a second opinion may be a waste of time.

i didn't get the result of my biopsy as such --i was informed I had an appointment with an oncologist who at the meeting told me the result and next steps -- scans ,and hormone therapy before radiation. ( given my age,size of prostate, and Gleason score or grade, my options were limited.)

The biopsy identifies the aggressiveness, and the scans identify the stage if the cancer is aggressive -- about 40% aren't aggressive

Its a winding road you're on so the best of luck.
