Re: 6 Nations 2024
Conor Murray has been poor for years. Marmion, Blade and Cooney have literally been robbed of some caps over the past 5 years.
I get the importance of jgp starting for the tempo but Murray offers nothing good these days.
He was a great player in his day but that was a long time ago

I see some people (not here) slating Crowley. Good learning for him and its not like there is another alternative crying out for selection.

Re: 6 Nations 2024
You'd have thought Murray would have trusted his forwards to Munster it instead of giving Eng a go at the death?
Better team won though. 3-2 a fair reflection

Re: 6 Nations 2024
Murray was absolutely dog dirt awful when he came on. Atrocious passing. Hendy picked two up virtually on the deck. One resulted in him getting turned over because his body angle was so low and he was then isolated. The following sequence saw England go up and eventually score.Bart S wrote:Conor Murray has been poor for years. Re: 6 Nations 2024
The 6/2 split on the bench is a huge risk if 2 backs get injured…….and one of the 2 subs is a specialist scrum half long past his best and kicking and passing atrociously.
Re: 6 Nations 2024
Peter O'Mahony has reached the end of the road.
Likewise Murray.
Time for Ryan Baird to start.
Short of a mathematical miracle we are still on course to win the 6N.

Who cares?
Winning the pot and losing to England is failure just as it was when Ireland did it to them

Re: 6 Nations 2024
16pts…..the same as 4 non bp wins. With the away fixtures to fr/eng, this is the trickier of the 2 fixture routes.
Eng/ire can ultimately be traced back to set piece, breakdown, and power. Ire had an unstable slow platform that stopped/disrupted their strike moves, and badly effected their fast multi phase game….they came off 2nd best, yet despite this it went down to the last minute even though England had physical dominance. Despite Poms stupid yellow that delayed Baird, and didn’t save a try anyway, and the 2 head injuries.
A losing bp wasn’t bad, considering eng missed several shots at goal.
Do Scot possess the pack to back that up?…. I d say traditionally, no - hence their poor record for the last number of yrs. ire have for yrs built wins over them by doing a number on them up front.
It’ll be interesting what AF does. Potentially Nash and Frawley don’t make it, which would put the cat among the pigeons re back selection. Does he revert to 5/3, or stick 6/2. Scots pack wouldn’t put the fear into anyone. Ire need a response and discipline (under pressure) which is a building issue.
POM is a 50 minuter and Conan and Baird have played well. Ire just need to keep cool heads this week, and perform on Saturday. A championship with ire’s history is a good result, and a cheeky £5m in the coffers.

Re: 6 Nations 2024
Had Andeh gone to his bench when he did against Wales, POM wouldn’t have been on the pitch to get his yellow.
It was almost as though Borthwick stole a march on him by changing his front row on 53 minutes.
JL on the right wing next week presumably. Call up Ross Byrne for the bench in a 5 3.

Re: 6 Nations 2024
There could be a bizarre scenario where Ire win the championship with 3 wins and Eng finish 2nd with 4.

Just give everyone a trophy. It's what everyone wants anyway (apart from Bryn).big mervyn wrote:There could be a bizarre scenario where Ire win the championship with 3 wins and Eng finish 2nd with 4.

Re: 6 Nations 2024
If Ireland win the thing and Wales finish last i think nearly everyone will get a trophy albeit a wooden one for the Taffs
So far:
Scotland Calcutta Cup and Doddie Weir trophy
England Millenium trophy
Italy Flies Graveyard trophy (moral victors only unfortunately)
France Auld Alliance of Engerland Haters cup
The Six Nations trophy, the Triple crown and the highly prized Quidditch Cup are all to play for at the Aviva on Saurday

That's a new one on me.
So everybody IS a winner (apart from Wales obviously )

Re: 6 Nations 2024
The first English try was down to Lowe his clearance kick was to predictable and his failure to find touch allowed England to instigate a preplan play -- a run across the field to wards the retreating English backline focusing on the far side of the pitch a pass to a player who with two players outside him braced his left leg knee foremost into the predictable tackle by Nash a self inflicted ?* head injury the carrier then turns infield into his forwards with the backs going blind side quick recycle and the attackers have a two man advantage ---- try1 All done to a predictable long kick infield.
* self inflicted ? the reason for the question mark to wings on the same wing get the same injury -- co incidence it would have taken a third injury to confirm enemy action -- (Capone's law once is an accident twice is a coincidence and the third time is enemy action) and knowing Ireland had a 6/2 bench and one of two required 4 minutes into the game my take was that Farrell has the same doubts as I have regarding the injury.
Then England play with crowd behind them and obtaining homer penalties eg Henderson penalised for not rolling away when being held and thus unable to . Its basically a 50/50 call but usually given to the home team rather than ignored.
then Murray failed to play keep ball with a two point advantage .
But the fact is it was never going to be an easy match won by just turning up.
