Interesting wee article

Jack Kyle (Antrim) and Mike Gibson (Down) two obvious candidates for inclusion.

Other Down contenders ?
David Hewitt
Dick Milliken
But Mike Gibson must have it.
Oddly all centres

Dave Gallaher was an excellent choice for Donegal. Born in Ramelton. Died in Belgium.

Surprised Paddy Blair Mayne wasn't included for Down... Would give Matty a run....

I have to say there were a few names I didn't recognise at all. Glad to put that right.

Could you imagine him in the UR squad today? God help anyone that’d dial it in. I’d back him to do the business on the pitch, grass / 3G, or an axis airfield for that matter.

Totally agree re Blair Mayne would never have taken a backward step and woe betide anyone that did in his company.

Surprised no one here played with Blair Mayne at school
Re: Best rugby player from each of the 32 counties
My father played with him. Thought he found his real calling in war.
Re: Best rugby player from each of the 32 counties
My father played with and against Blair Mayne said he was the only person on a rugby pitch that scared him . My father said it was because Blair Mayne hadn't a clue about his own strength . Sir Ivor yer da must have been a Malone man

Me da was a Regent House/King’s Scholars man.

Tyrone: Tyrone Howe
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?
Re: Best rugby player from each of the 32 counties
Ken Goodall is the obvious choice for Derry. Mike Gibson for Down although Mayne would be a good backup

Tee hee.
Except his middle name was Ards.
Down - T. Ards Howe.
The problem with a thread like this is that some poor-ish players from some counties will get in, while some excellent players are omitted due to there being several from the same counties.
Wonder if we picked best players from only, Dublin, Belfast and Limerick (and maybe, possibly Galway and/or Cork)
and best player from each of the 32 counties excluding those born in the above named cities.
I suspect the team drawn from the cities would be much better than that from the 32 counties outside of the cities, but there'd be a few cracking players in that latter's side anyway.
I'm open to persuasion I'd be wrong though.
