20s World Championship in South Africa 2024

Post by Neill_M »

South Africa hosts back-to-back U20 Championships (June 29 - July 19)

The World Rugby U20 Championship 2024 will be played over five match days in the Western Cape regions of Stellenbosch and Cape Town. The world’s best 12 nations have been placed into three pools of four with three-time consecutive winners France placed in Pool A alongside New Zealand, Wales and Spain, who will make their debut after winning the World Rugby U20 Trophy in 2023.

After claiming a bronze medal with a superb defensive and forward display, the Junior Springboks will look to impress again on home soil and face England, Argentina and Fiji in Pool C while 2023 runners-up Ireland, Australia, Georgia and Italy make up Pool B.

The final will be played at Cape Town Stadium on 19 July. Danie Craven Stadium, Athlone Stadium, and Cape Town Stadium are the three match venues.

World Rugby U20 Championship 2024 participating teams: Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain and Wales.

Scotland aiming for promotion on home soil (July 2 - 17)

The World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024 switches to the northern hemisphere after a successful event in Kenya in 2023. Played in Scotland over four match days at Hive Stadium in Edinburgh, the 2024 edition will feature eight teams fighting for promotion to the World Rugby U20 Championship 2025.

The World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024 participating teams are: Japan (relegated from the U20 Championship in 2023), Scotland (hosts), Hong Kong China (Asia), Netherlands (Europe), Uruguay (South America) and Africa, North America and Oceania representatives.

Kind of embarrassing how Ulster are trumpeting 6 guys in the 20s squad - I mean, be honest. It's 3. Which is dreadful.

Hugh was hemming and hawing in the fan's forum about how to measure success at age grade, well to me it's pretty obvious, results in the inter-pros (which have been desperate for the last couple of seasons) and representation in Ireland squads (likewise). Ulster need to up their game, fast.

Does anyone really care about rugby on this site. It is becoming one fècking boring site. There are only about a dozen posters. Are the rest of you in Nursing Homes?

It is the " Silly Season " of flutes and drums

The Ulster players are few in the squad maybe it's because June is the month of exams and the number reflects that we in Ulster have more brains than brawn . or as some might retort ' f---ing useless "

Has the look of either Humphs about him. Lovely player, but small.. awaiting if he's a turnstile to go out in the wing... Italy didn't offer much- big difference from 6 months ago. Hard to judge how good Ireland are. Surprised Hopes and Ward weren't starting/ meant to bench (Ward).
Boyd at LH- Hard to tell also. 6 months ago the Italian pack would've devoured him. Keep an eye

Murphy looks a tidy playmaker in the jackson mode. He doesn't look overall small to me, time will tell however but he and Morgan give us some hope for the future.

It's early days. Let's see how he gets on in rest of competition. Ward decision was strange. He looks useful.
