That would be the report cjp, he left the ground immediately for the hospital with a suspected broken ankle and looked to be in considerable pain. :( :(

Best crocked as Ulster stumble

By Gavin Mairs
20 May 2006

Ulster coach Mark McCall insisted his side remain in pole position to clinch the Celtic League title after Llanelli clawed back a 12-point deficit to prevent the province being crowned champions at Stradey Park last night.

The 12-12 draw puts McCall's men two points clear at the top of table ahead of Irish rivals Leinster. A win for Ulster against the Ospreys next week will see them clinch the title even if Leinster beat Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

But they will have to win it without their captain Simon Best who was stretchered off with a suspected fractured fibula in his ankle. Inspirational flanker Stephen Ferris also picked up an ankle injury.

"Simon Best is very serious, it looks like a fractured fibula and Stephen Ferris got a bad injury too. He twisted his ankle," said McCall.

"We will have to look at the injury toll and see how the other guys are and look after bodies next week."

Despite this setback, McCall remains confident and praised his side's hard-working performance.

"For us to come here and not be beaten is a tremendous effort," he added. "We have put ourselves in a position where if we win next week, it doesn't matter what happens at Murrayfield."

The permutations and combinations are still with us for next week....

If Leinster lose in Edinburgh we win the league regardless
If Leinster draw without a try bonus we win the league regardless
If Leinster draw with a TB then we must take at least one losing/try bonus point
If Leinster win without a TB we need to draw or take a TB & LB
If Leinster win with a TB we have to win (or draw with a TB)

In other words Leinster have to do significantly better than us to snatch the title. They can do it but it will not be easy. :?

The chin is up Browner as is Simons, he has a clean break in the ankle so long term will be ok.

Anyone know if Simon Best will be ready for next year - presumably that is the end of any Irish tour.

One big worry I have is that Fitz looks past it to me and not sure he is up to a full game.

We have become very dependant on S.Best and Young - none of the cover is up to the mark in my opinion.

Goodie and Simon were comparing casts at the BBQ this afternoon. I must say Goodies is much more colourful with all the signatures.
