NEW DISCIPLINARY CODE
Physical abuse of match officials: Life ban
Threatening match officials: Three-year ban
Biting: Six-month to three-year ban
Punch: Three to 12-month ban
Testicle grabbing, twisting and squeezing: Maximum two-year ban
Gouging: Maximum two-year ban
Punching, butting, stamping or trampling: Maximum one-year ban
Stiff-arm tackles: Maximum six-month ban
Verbal abuse of opponents, including spitting: Maximum six-month ban

hmmmm,

not convinced that stiffening penalties is what is needed. Enforcing the existing ones would be worth trying as a first step. There is far too much evidence of the current regime being applied inconsistently and sending out mixed messages. I have a feeling that there is sufficient room within the existing framework but that the current disciplinary boards are not prepared to use the extent of their powers. Just doubling the penalties will be meaningless if the boards don't enforce them.

I think Paul has a point. Referees must be more consistent with their judgements and also there must be more input and assistance from the TJs which should be given due consideration from the referee as well. It should also be said that refs ought to be more accounable for the feck ups and to balance should have more assistance from modern technology where applicable. No doubt we canall look at last eason and see some truely horrendus and dangerous howlers.
