**close season topic no. 6**: favourite musicians and bands

Post by Jackie Brown »

Well i'm completely plagiarising Jamesies ideas here!

Favourite musical acts, top 5 please!

1. Radiohead, i've seen them three times, Punchestown Racecourse, Waterfront, Odyssey and will be down to see them in MArley PArk next week. Blow me away every time. Ok Compute best british album of all time, says it all.
2. Smashing Pumpkins, Evolving sound, Billy Corgan great lyricist. Fantastic, pity they split :(
3. Placebo, Just can't stop listening to them these days :s
4. Muse, Saw them in the Ulster Hall, with half the Ulster Team it seemed, lol. Best concert i've been to.
5. Hendrix, listened to him since i was in my buggie. Dad is a massive fan and well, Jimi was a complete genius!

hmmmm,
1) U2 - saw them at croke park last summer and they were amazing, I think if bono turned out to be edwina currie wearing a mask I wud still put them number 1, thats how good they were!

2) COLDPLAY - Just brilliant!

3) Fleetwood Mac - With suggestions like this would you believe im only 23! Well I am just 23 but I still reckon they are pretty impressive

4) Foo Fighters - I start every holiday with 'learn to fly' so there are just so many good memories.

5) Again, its disgusting that im comming out with things like this but...Neil Diamond. went to see the Boston Red Sox last summer and he was playing live before the match and he was flippin good! and he gave us "sweet caroline"

jackie, plagiarise away!!! great thread! here's mine...

1. metallica: never actually seen them. nearly got to download this year though. favourite album '...and justice for all' ...maybe started to lose it after the 'black album' but still my all time number 1. james hetfield is truly a collussus.
2. radiohead: enough said
3. ash: NI's finest and seen me through my formative years. seen them too many times to remember
4. U2: legends... every one a winner and amazing longevity. seen them 3 times.
5. snow patrol: last two albums 'final straw' and 'eyes open' are modern classics. may push up my leaderboard given a bit of time.

controversially killers and keane not up there quite yet as maybe not around long enough, but well on their way... 'hopes and fears' was my fave album of 2005 ...amazingly daniel o'donnell also just misses out

as for musician, i have to go with paul simon... pocket genius. anybody heard 'rhythym of the saints' or 'simon and garfunkel live in new york' ...great stuff i tells ye!

No 1 Eric Clapton

No 3 BB King

No 4 Snow Patrol

No 5 Fleetwood Mac (prefer the earlier blues stuff)

Not too hard to guess where my musical preferences lie

Energy Orchard: the best live band I've ever seen.
Van the Man: the mid-70s incarnation, St. Dominic's Preview and all that.
Johnny Cash: was lucky enough to see him in the US and he was the business.
Hendrix. 'Nuff said.
Dylan and The Band. Ditto.

Would have to include: -

John Martyn (wrote Solid Air, a song about Nick Drake)
Led Zeppelin
Jethro Tull
Countin' Crows
Wishbone Ash

But many more!
"Cheer up" he said "It could get worse", so I cheered up, and it got worse...
