Question: Can I set newest first as the default order on all threads?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean then. Can you be more specific?

I think Setanta is referring to the order of the posts within each thread, which (as standard) is oldest first.
Personally, having experienced the old IRFU and UB message boards where the order was 1st post followed by all the rest starting with the most recent, I much prefer the current set-up. But I suppose if it is user selectable he's welcome to his own preference.

You can set it to show newest first but you have to open thread first then when you move it reverts to oldest first, I think he wants to set newest as default but is it possible

Exactly Rooster, thanks for translating. On a new thread its handier to have oldest first to read in order but in an old, long thread its a pain in the posterior.

ok, currently, the answer is no, the sort into ascending or descending can't be done by the user, however I have found a mod which will allow each user to define their own sort per thread. I will test it on a temporary basis to see how it works on another trial forum I have, then if it works, I will add it to this one. Thanks for pointing this out Setanta, I thik it will be handy should people have to read long threads with many messages.
