No Colin,it's you who is incorrect. Ultimately it is the fans who create the interest to attract the sponsorship, who pay the entrance money, who buy the drinks, pies, shirts, programmes etc, etc. Without the fans there is no professional game possible! Well said Stan!
When I was little my granny used to take me to the Circus to see the Fat Lady and the Tattooed Man. Now they're everywhere!

The players are centrally contracted and paid for by the IRFU.

But you still don't pay the wages which remains FACTUALLY correct. Also, since when did the fans create the interest?? I always thought it was the team

The international ones are, the rest are paid for by the Branches.

All professional players, at whatever level, in Ireland are contracted to the IRFU

The IRFU may pay the salaries (or part of) but the gate receipts goes to the IRFU.

Not sure whether the Ulster Branch has published how much of the entrance money is sent to IRFU - I think it changed a couple of years ago to enable them to keep a slightly larger percentage to help fund the development set up. Perhaps someone in the branch could let us know?

The bottom line is that it is the fans who decide how much money will be going into rugby both at provencial and international level. The fans aren't attending the matches in Scotland - the SRFU is heavil;y in debt !

I was under the impression the big revenue generating games were the internationals. I wouldn't imagine Leinster & Munster could afford their wage bills with the average gates they get for matches.

The Scots are in debt mainly because they built Murrayfield!!
