What are you listening to?

Re: What are you listening to?
Notwithstanding the presence of various revered musos, my personal highlight was Paul Jones singing Doo Wah Diddy.
I quite enjoyed Bonnie Tyler croak her way though 'Total Eclipse....' too.
I skilfully managed to co-ordinate my trip to the toilet with Mick Hucknall's appearance on stage.
I'm still unsure why the Sikh of Tweak, Monty Panesar, was playing the tambourine during the finale of 'All You Need is Love".
Probably cos he can't play the guitar I suppose.

In our quarantined existence, BBC Sounds app is a godsend. Try Letter from America, by Alastair Cooke. For those too young to remember, a Brits oral weekly commentary on life in America, covering Vietnam, presidential elections, Iraq, 9/11, Watergate ......you name it. 1300 15 minute episodes available. Listen by theme or by date. Priceless.......but free!

Re: What are you listening to?
Anybody listened to any of this 8D music? I've just been introduced to is and it's pretty impressive at first then, for me at least, doesn't do much apart from a little motion sickness. Here's the best on offer (in my humble opinion)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gl-u3wDCO0 ;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n-U4h2CYwI (way better than the original and the 8D make it even creepier);
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdVjVtpr55M (another fine version of the same song, not 8D);
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2MgSfxN5iE (another classic);
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=271hkUMlwrE (this one of my all-time favourites but gains nothing from moving about inside your head) and finally
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYww3-ut3vQ (why mess about with the king - waste of technology)
and finally finally, from about two minutes in, pretty close to 8D in 1970: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8i4Rp3qizk
Yes, there may well be a better way to fill these shut-in days.

Morrissey's new album is full of great tunes.
You can't possibly not like this one:

He even does a song for Shan:

Morrisey is not "click bait" far as this pilgrim is concerned

My Hurling Days Are Done is the one for Shan if you couldn’t resist the urge.
And it’s superb. Like most of the new album.
I’m now in between jobs for the first time in 25 years and am getting to grips with Hugo Duncan.....

I wish he’d quit singing along to the records....
Re: What are you listening to?
The unfortunate thing about his choice of records is that there is such a sameness to most of them .
And to steal the word of one song "Hank never did it that way "

The inimitable Juliet Turner. What ever happened to her?

Re: What are you listening to?
Morrissey did a surprisingly good job of that song at a show in California in 2015.
Not sure what Waylon would have made of him but.

She was good; a mixture of an enchanting /svengali like voice and some good lyrics.big mervyn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 10:50 am The inimitable Juliet Turner. What ever happened to her?
She went to study Speech Therapy. The last informatiion I could find about her was an interview she did in 2011 with Miriam O'Callaghan:
''Juliet has changed career direction in recent times, graduating as a speech therapist last Summer. She is curently working in a voluntary capacity in a clinic. The decision to return arose because she had given up her speech therapy studies for family reasons on leaving school, before completing her arts degree in Trinity and starting a singing career. Juliet explains the profound effect that the death of her brother and her father's stroke when she was nineteen had on her life. She returned to these studies when, after her third album, she realised that although she wanted to continue singing, she didn't want to be trying to make a full time living on the road as a singer.''

Re: What are you listening to?
I got a copy of R. Crumb's "Heroes of Blues, Jazz and Country". Great illustrations and a CD featuring artists from the early part of the twentieth century. Authentic country music, not the plastic redneck parody it has become. Hank has to take a fair share of the blame for that!

Re: What are you listening to?
A bit harsh to blame the artist--- for 10,000 bad imitators and many owe their livelihoods for what he did for country music.
like many forms of music there is good and bad in Blues ,Jazz, and Country not everything pre 1940 was good and not everything post 1940 is bad

Re: What are you listening to?
I am told from a usually reliable source that some BBC genius had come up with the "wee man from strabane" tag line before the complication arose that wee Hugo was not actually from strabane. Problem was they then could come up with a town in northern Ireland that rhymed with " the wee sh...e from...... "
So they just stuck with it
