Deaths are registered at the appropriate local authority by the family and are based on the death certificate issued by a doctor. This maybe a couple of days after the death . The daily total in any local Authority will include death from many causes some primary some secondary , My Mother's death certificate Identified two causes of Death and I think my fathers did as well.

It is easy to collate the death certificates issue in a Hospital -- those issued by various doctors in care homes etc wouldn't be collated until registered and analysised .

How many died of Covid but the reason was recorded as something else?
How many died of something else but with Covid?
How many died of something else because they stayed away from the doctor because of the current situation? I wonder if that happened to BJ Hogg who felt ill yesterday morning and died later on, but was not thought to have Covid. Maybe at another time he would have went straight to A&E?

Best guesstimate is probably the total deaths during the epidemic minus the average for a normal year.

They met it the way they always do - by fiddling the figures. The total includes 40k tests that have been posted out but have neither been completed or returnedat this stage. It's akin to counting ballot papers as votes.

I set myself a target of walking round the living room of my house 2 million times by the end of April. I can now confirm that I have met and exceeded the target.
