What have we paid for?

Post by cables »

I renewed my Aquinas Car Park Pass again this season at a substantial increase in cost.

I did so based on my experience from last season.

HOWEVER

The situation has, I was informed this evening for the first time, changed.

Parking placrs closest to the Aquinas gate are for disabled people. No doubt that is for those who can walk a little and do not need parking within the ground itself. That is fine and as a person who has some difficulty in walking I applaud that decision. I must note however that as a car park pass holder I was never asked and wonder how somehow others achieved the disabled categiry.

HOWEVER

The next closest area is apparently reserved for VIP's and the press. I can tell you that it was not filled much this evening!

SO

I, as a paying punter, am relegated further from the gate to leave room for VIP's and the press.

What have we paid for?

The costs associated with the Aquinas parking so that VIP's and the press can avail of convenient and reserved parking places. I dread to see what the first Heiny game will bring as I fear that the PSM crowd may be allocated places and I will be moved yet further away.

That is correct Big-al but I would add that I somewhat reluctantly wear the bunny suit.

for what it's worth Cables, I completely agree. this process started last season, however - cars were moved further and further away as the season progressed. the people who bought those passes bought one thing and were given something completely different.

it's ulster, so we suck it up. but if a company treated you like this, the loyalty would go out the window pretty quickly.

The carpass thing sort of pisses me off but perhaps not as much as others as I only ever made it to the near bit once last year due to being a late arrival in a panic most weeks, as for who parks in the near bit it is beyond me as Simon Best was parking on the all weather pitch just after he came back from France and well before he retired, at that stage I thought he would have still have had a players pass.

Just out of interest, on parking what is the maximum distance you would walk from car to gate at the Aqinas?

Depends how many passes they have sold how far back on the all weather pitch you would have to park on a rough estimate 300m max normally around 220m for late comers or around 100m if you got using the nearest part that now appears to be closed to us mortals.

220m you must be knackered after that....

come on this is more than a little petty, ulster don't care because they offer secure parking within 220m of the ground???

it seems like a good facility for those that wish to use it..

Cables point is not the distance involved more the principal that last year when these passes were first issued there was no mention of a separate reserved section near the gates, this appeared at the first HEC comp if my memory is correct, then this year it has been cut off right from the first weeks for some other reason yet was not even half filled last week, unless they arrived late and left early. People bought the passes this year again at a higher price expecting to be on the same deal as last year but it now appears the barrier has been moved, excuse the pun, and those who have the red pass cards are being shunted further out even if they arrive early, I don't believe it was press as I was first in the carpark last week and at that stage photographers and most press were already in the grounds.
