Oh dear, Sainsburys ( H’wood) up 11p since I was last there to 157.9. Tesco ( K’nagoney) still at what now seems a rather cheap 151.9 but queue is out to the main K’nagoney Road.

Oil is traded on commodities markets (I suppose that's an auction of sorts). Brent price today will prob be for June delivery. WTI maybe May. Refined product is also traded as futures.solidarity wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 11:42 am I guess oil normally sells by an auction of some sort, hence the volatility in price. Why can oil producers not simply say, 'We're going to cap oil prices at (say) $110 per barrel for the next 6 months, as our contribution to putting pressure on Russia.'? Presumably they're not losing money although not making as much as they would otherwise. I assume it's more complicated than this!
Producers control price by varying production levels. I'm not sure that Saudi/the latin americans are keen to put pressure on Russia. No doubt diplomats are currently trying to convince them that there'll be something in it for them, if they do us a favour and ramp up production.

No petrol at Tescos at the Outlet although it said 153.9 , Evergreen south or Dundalk was 184.9 Euro but Best Buy was at the garage just north of the point on the East Wall rd near Lidl/Aldi was Euro 179.9 which ain’t bad.

Thanks, BR. As much as anything, this current grim situatuon shows the interplay between politics, commerce, personal ambition etc etc. Nothing is simple, is it, except perhaps the unerring instinct of human beings to look for a financial profit from any situation.BR wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 4:14 pmOil is traded on commodities markets (I suppose that's an auction of sorts). Sainsburys (B’mena) 160.9 today and Tescos (B’mena) 159.9. Tescos (K’nagoney) usually open 24 hour was shut at 7pm tonight, sign says 151.9 but bet it won’t be that when it reopens.

Applegreen on the M2 up 3p overnight and is now 159.8. Passed Tescos (K'nagoney) this morning but forgot to look if the garage was open again. Next refill will probably be the Applegreen at Letterkenny about 8pm tonight, price will follow.
