This is actually not a stupid suggestion but could usefully be expanded to include any heating systems that will be permitted once gas, oil, solid fuel are banned and there isn't enough electricity to use for heating after all the car batteries are charged up. All the wasted energy of exercise bikes should be harnessed as well. Spin class, anyone?
On a very good day I can average about 250 Watts in an hour. Not sure how reliable the tech is though. The calories are definitely overestimated
Firstly i will admit to only having a vague idea of what a spin class is.

But if you are averaging 250 Watt over an hour, does that not automatically mean 215 kcal ?
215x4 would be correct.

You have to take the figures with a pinch of salt. The bikes have considerable variations and they are also set up for an "average user". The figures will vary according to weight, age and sex (never managed to have sex on a spin bike mind).

I suspect they're also set up to massage your ego. There's no way I'm burning 900 cals per hour even if it feels like it.

It's to allow for the fact that the human machine operates at about 25% efficiency.

Ahhhh. So one is input energy and the other is output energy.

Yes, 4 does seem like a very arbitrary value for efficiency.

Tesco ( K’nagoney) was 140.9 as I passed this morning. Will it be higher on my way home? Brent crude up 6.77% today and now at 103.61 dollars a barrel.

I drive a wee Fiesta.
Today was the first time I've put more than £50 of petrol in the tank at one go.

Seen somewhere charging 156.9p yesterday for both petrol ajd diesel. It's always expensive but that's taking the pi$h. It's in Lisburn so it's not the middle of nowhere.

Solo on Bangor ring road is always three to five pence cheaper than anywhere else in Bangor, so I filled up there as usual on Saturday. Half way through the fill I saw that they were charging 157.9. I think the technical term might be 'Getting the arm in'! I'll be more creful to check the price in future.
