Payne's Replacement

Re: Payne's Replacement
it would have to be danielli at full back, gilroy and trimble at wing with d'arcy on the bench in case of injuries
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Sounds more sensible than Big-al's suggestionruckover wrote:it would have to be danielli at full back, gilroy and trimble at wing with d'arcy on the bench in case of injuries

Re: Payne's Replacement
I agree the Gilroy experiment at Irish U20 wasn't impressive. Gilroy & Danielli on the wings and Trimble at fullback with Dizzy on the bench covering centre & wing. P Wallace to move to FB if Trimble gets injured. I would still like to see Peter Nelson get a run out.
I’m feeling Perky this morning.
Re: Payne's Replacement
has he played there before? i would only put danielli there because he didn't do too badly there last yearTinPig wrote: Trimble at fullback

Trimble at 15 ... really ... seriously ... have you ever seen him kick with his wrong foot ... or should I say when he kicks with his right foot it looks like his wrong one????
Always ask yourself, "What would Big Rodney do"... And every time the answer is... "Eat It"
Re: Payne's Replacement
I have seen DArcy kick and I have seen Danielli at fullback run up his own Brennan. Anyway who wants a fullback that kicks the ball away any how.

I would say Tin Pig and Big-al have the same supplier of wacky baccy by reading the last few posts, just TinPig has smoked more of itCornerfleg wrote:Trimble at 15 ... really ... seriously ... have you ever seen him kick with his wrong foot ... or should I say when he kicks with his right foot it looks like his wrong one????

Very good point ... in which case we should play Jared in a cast!

Re: Payne's Replacement
Whatever misgivings people may have about Darcy's ability to perform at the highest level he's still the one genuine full back we have in there. The others are all wingers who could maybe play FB as an emergency, but not week in week out.
Given the current squad I can't see how Darcy won't be 1st choice at FB. May be tough on one of Gilroy, Danielli or Trimble but I believe any of those 3 would be seroiusly targetted at FB and am not convinced they would do as good a job as Darcy in what is not their natural position.

Re: Payne's Replacement
Anyway, back to the quesiton of Payne's replacement.
If we wait a few months until the 21st January then we could sign Trevor Brennan.
He'd have his own way of making sure that no-one got past the last line of defence....

Re: Payne's Replacement
reading all this i don't fancy any of our options. can gilroy possibly go full back? he couldn't do any worse than the others

Re: Payne's Replacement
It's a very sad state of affairs where we are trying to pick a full back based on how likley they are to feck up least.
It's not like school rugby though - it's a specialised position and IMHO we'd be crying in our pints to get Darse back at 15 if we tried to force the likes of Trimble/Gilroy or Danielli into the 15 shirt for more than one game.
Either we sign cover or tell Adam he has the shirt now go out and play properly.

Re: Payne's Replacement
I know Fleg you & I have differing opinions on DArcy and I will admit that he has improved from last year (not with standing the last game). However he is not astute enough in attack or defence.
I would seriously like to see Peter Nelson given an opportunity. Unfortunately given the 3 losses on the bounce this selection seems unlikely. What I have seen of him was excellent and you can see why he has been grouped in with Paddy Jackson & Luke Marshall as a future star.
