The Irish times also covered it the previous day:

http://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-an ... -1.2898322
Man touched pensioner’s bottom before knocking him out
The footage showed Crawford initially touching a woman’s bottom as she was leaving the takeaway, before she lashed out at him and left the premises.
... he had been “poked” in the backside by Crawford on the night.
..denied his client poked Mr Deeney in the area of his anus but used a “cupped hand” on just one occasion.
So we have feel, touch, poke and cup but no use of the word pat.

Crawford was clearly being a nuisance but Deeney was the one who lost control first.
Yes, that's me in the avatar!

Opinion.

I would suggest that when he was "being a nuisance", Crawford had already lost control first.

Particularly given he had openly stated he'd a fair bit of drink on board, to provide context as to why he did what he did.

Jesus, Mary and Jethro Tull, man.

I'm not going to say "get into the 21st century" or anything - this isn't a question of "it used to be culturally acceptable, now it's not" - that's just wrong. It always has been.
It's the hope that kills you.

Volunteer at an animal sanctuary; it will fill you with joy , despair, but most of all love, unconditional love of the animals.

Got to love the President elect, I'm not convinced he wants the job.

You may have heard China have pirated a US research (spying) drone. Was this a Freudian slip?

A decision which Trump will hate and a farewell Feck You, even if a tad rich coming from a Country where any truck with less than a 6L V8 engine is considered a woman's car.
