What are you reading?
Thought i'd start a similar thread to the "..listening to" one.
Currently "The book thief" by Markus Zusak. Set in Nazi Germany. Narrated by Death. Sounds weird - it's undoubtedly different...& beautifully written. Try it.
Any other recommendations out there? We could rival Richard & Judy

I've just finished Wilbur Smith's When The Lion Feeds, and just started The Sound of Thunder, the next in the series. I highly recommend him - this is the third book of his I've read in the last couple of months and really enjoyed it.
Technically, I'm also reading Richard Hammond's book, but it's been a while since I actually read any of it.

Re: What are you reading?
I can usually be found reading one of the following at the moment:
"The Strategy of Conflict" - Thomas Schelling
"The Logic of Life: Uncovering the New Economics of Everything" - Tim Harford
"The Master and the Margarita" - Mikhail Bulgakov
The first one is for some research I'm doing, the second one for an economics book club I belong to ( ) and the third is for pure pleasure.

Right now a bit of leisurely fiction:
John Connolly--The Unquiet.I have read a few more of his novels and find them engrossing.

It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.

I particularly liked his contribution to Man Utd's 1990 FA Cup winning season, (SAF's 1st trophy as manager of Utd). IIRC He played a part in Utd's 1st & 3rd goals in the 3-3 draw with Palace in the final. Utd won the replay 1-0Colzo wrote:Just got my hands on Danny Wallace's "Friends Like These"

How many Man U players feature among his "Friends"?
Re: What are you reading?
Cheers for the offer - feel free to send anything potentially relevant my way. I've got plenty of journal articles but more reading never harmed anyone. I'm interested in the strategies, if any, that existed between paramilitaries in Northern Ireland and I'm following the Enders and Sandler view that in such studies, treating players as passive is fundamentally flawed, so game theory, unfortunately, becomes relevant. With a little hope, it should be the first chapter of a PhD.Ithryn wrote:Neil your reading Game theory? ouch what are you reading it for may i ask? may be able to suggest other books if your reading up on deterance theory etc. (going to be away next 3 days graduating so wont be replying quickly(

Stephen Fry's 'The Liar' - clever, witty, bust-a-gut funny and camp as the proverbial row of tents.
Peter Carey 'Theft' - art forgery scam from the two-time Booker winner- heavy going
Evelyn Waugh 'Decline and Fall' - classic 20s comic romp about hopeless trainee vicar turned white slaver.

Re: What are you reading?
Big John Connolly fan. Charlie Parker is a fantastic character. Real anti-hero...flaws & all. If you like your crime thrillers dark & with a touch of the supernatural - then he is the man to read. Couple of good soundtrack cd's (music which inspired the author) to accompany his books out there too.Shan wrote:Right now a bit of leisurely fiction:
