Used in East Belfast to my certain knowledge as early as the 60s, first describing a glorious save by Ronnie Hakin, our wee team's goalkeeper, later to become a teacher ................. oh aye, & he played 2nd row for Ulster & Ireland.

If Ronnie said he "dove full length" then Ronnie dove. Capiche? He once held a boy up by the ankles over the boot wash to emphasise that he was not to be trifled with. Mind you I don't think it was because the chube was making light of Ronnie's propensity to div, dove or dive full length.

Ex CIYMS if I'm correct, played for Ireland a few time in the late '70s.

Went on to play for Bath as far as I'm aware as he was teaching there at the time.

All correct. In possibly his first cap he was punched by Geoff Wheel who was then punched by Willie Duggan & both Wheel & Willie were sent off.

Think it was Stuart McKinney who got punched. Ronnie's first cap was against France I think. Ronnie now resides in Kilarney. Great spot once you remove the plastic paddywhackery.

Ronnie definitely was punched by Wheel, but the rest of that, I have no quarrel with. Ronnie's brother told me he was in the land of the pony & trap a few months back.
