Re: Backrow Outside the Box Thinking
I don't personally watch AIL but I've heard being an Ulster academy guy makes you a bit of a target when playing AIL. Everyone wants to tackle the Ulster fella. It's possibly a case of, an academy guy would likely have superior conditioning and others want to test their ability. I think Paul O'Connell played a half for his club a few years back and made some comment about having six guys smash him everytime he got the ball.
Not that Dow is getting smashed by six guys but there could some logic in that. Or else he's absolute mince.

McBurney has the size, and physic already. He is rock solid. When Rory retires, McBurney will no 2 behind Herring have leapfrogged Andrew, Murphy et al.Boutye wrote:McBurney has a lot of potential as I've watched him from u14 level, however at his age, he has imo 2 problems..1, there are at the moment 2 hookers ahead of him, not counting the current Ulster captain as well as the international captain, thus meaning lack of meaningful game time.
2. He doesn't have the size at the minute to have a major impact in senior rugby, they say size doesn't matter but at the minute he is not physically big enough , though hopefully he will develop as he has a great attitude to boot.
He also has an excellent rugby brain and is a potential future captain.

Bad call, unfortunately his mother passed away a few years back.

Re: Backrow Outside the Box Thinking
McBurney looks the business and I would say he's odds on the one to replace Rory long term, but it's still early days for the lad.

Harrison Brewer, Dublin lad just back from playing in New Zealand and now playing for Terenure.
Go get him Ulster. Bound to be worth a go.
