Any word on the Academy?

Re: Any word on the Academy?
The discussion on this thread bears out my earlier point that Leinster are fortunate to have these dozen or so elite private fee paying schools which are mini academies 5in rugby terms and churn out pretty well developed talent for the pro operation to take in hand once the kid leaves school.
Until the other provinces copy this they will lag behind.
Of course it's easy in this part of Ireland, the south Dublin middle class, to do it with the wall of money put into the elite schools by their alumni and parents.
Socially I don't like it but in rugby terms it is a winner for the province.

The Ulster schools cup cartel would never allow the necessary changes to be made.

The coaching team for the 20s isn't all Munster. Its Connacht and Munster academy coaches/Connacht video analystGerald the Mole wrote:We cannot compare ourselves to numbers that say Leinster have in this U20 squad and with having an all Munster coaching team their representation is wrong in my humble opinion, ruckover wrote:Perhaps if we invested more money in the Academy than in average overseas imports we might have more than six in that squad and we might end up not relying on average overseas imports in the future.
may be worthwhile waiting until the squad is cut to see how many make to starting team etc
How is the Munster rep wrong?
Of course its worthwhile waiting to see how the squads line up for the games as its not great just looking at these squad line ups now.

There are very few private Schools in Northern Ireland to absorb school boys with potential and discrimination laws could be broken by the exercise if it existed
Nothing to do with Cartels .
The fact is employment is more assured signing up for a university degree than opting to join a rugby academy and most who play rugby in Ulster face the choice .

Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

Ireland U20s lost to a Munster development side today. The only Ulster representative in the matchday squad was Marcus Reanfrom what I can see. The academy really are producing the square root of feck all, pathetic.

Jack Kelly as well. Wasn't a full squad, and admittedly that year's not a great one. Year below is superb though.pg106 wrote:Ireland U20s lost to a Munster development side today. He's supposed to be a good prospect like his older brother. Let's stick with Roger and Diack until they are 46 though.pg106 wrote:Ireland U20s lost to a Munster development side today. Re: Any word on the Academy?
Anyway, hopefully we see more of our lads in the mix come the 6 Nations, Stewart is pretty much locked in as a starter and Cooper shouldn't be too far off either.
