Have you any other ideas?

There is another cheap rail fare website which I will try to dig out tomorrow for you. You could also try national express coaches. I managed to get a day return from Preston Lancs - Milton Keynes Central for £29

You won't get a cheap train fare out of Stansted, unless things have changed a lot in the past couple of years.

It would depend on numbers travelling, but rather than train it into town and back out, get a taxi either all the way to MK or across to somewhere on the London - Northampton train line. I've got a pre-booked taxi between Stanstead and Luton before and it didn't turn out to be that expensive, and zero hassle.

For those still looking at travel options, you can get a 24+ hour return to Stranraer (car +4) for £149. If you leave in the wee hours of Sunday, you don't need to be back until Monday lunch or so. The regular fare would be aabout £300 and a few quid cheaper Larne-Cairnryan.

Dublin - Holyhead is about £350 (car +4).
Can I come out from behind the sofa yet?
