Barker Signing A Major Boost For Rainey OB

http://www.raineyoldboysrfc.com/Joomla/ ... s&Itemid=3

While the Rugby Committee can be well pleased with how things went last season, they are not resting on their laurels. Coaches Chris Campbell and Richard Boyd, in liaison with a recruitment panel, have been busy in recent weeks considering their options and interviewing players who would enhance the strength of the squad. They have until the end of the month to register newcomers and with a number of irons in the fire, hopes are high that some key positions can be filled. No names will be mentioned until registrations have been completed, but the club is delighted to announce that Ulster forward Tim Barker will be at Hatrick Park next season.

Tim made his name at Dungannon before being invited to join the Ulster squad for season 2003-04. He later sampled rugby in the south of France with Top 14 side Castres Olympique. His next port of call was Glasgow where he spent a successful period with the Warriors. For the last two seasons he has been back at Ravenhill, playing his part in Ulster's exciting run and rubbing shoulders with some of rugby's biggest names. On leaving the professional ranks, he will embark on a new career as a Chartered Accountant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

Tim still has a lot to offer and his experience should prove invaluable. Not yet 31, the 6'5" lock/No.8 will increase lineout options and his powerful ball-carrying ability will lighten the load on others. He represented Ireland at Under 18, 19 and 21 levels and his capture is just what the club needed. Let's hope that the next few weeks will produce more good news.

Wow, a day for surprises.

iHumph becomes a Spide,
NOC returns to a deafening silence,
Tim Barker leaves the pro game to assist tax dodgers.

Any time left for some other good news?
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

I heard that St Ruan is off to Leinster, Bowe changed his mind and is going to the turnips, Afoa wants to join Kaino in Japan and Ferris is going to retire.

But silver lining, we are resigning Neil Best and NOC, and giving Emerick another three month trial.

An interesting turn of events for a solid squad player. I wish him all the best and can't wait to play against him.

Barker was an excellent squad palyer who gave 100%. A good signing for the boys from Mid Ulster, who are a well run outfit, and like Ulster have noisy neighbours to their south.

Good luck Tim.
Thought he was a lot better than McComb who hasn't impressed me at all. Think this leaves us somewhat light in the second row next year, unless Henderson is being seriously considered as a senior player for the coming season - although I thought they had plans for him as a back rower
There was never a guard nor a customs man, got his nose inside that transit van.

Sorry to hear he's moving on, he was a devoted Ulsterman though who was mad keen to come home to play for 'his' team and always gave 100% :red: .

Good luck Tim & best wishes for the future :salut: :salut:
