Tom Court's Hearing

Post by Rob6 »

http://www.rabodirectpro12.com/news/149 ... 2uYLK1dU1A
Tom Court, the Ulster prop forward, appeared today before an independent PRO12 Disciplinary Committee in Neath, South Wales, having been dismissed with a red card in the RaboDirect PRO12 match between Ulster and Leinster at Ravenhill on Friday 2 May 2014.

The Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Simon Thomas, alongside Terry Vaux and Robert Williams (all from Wales), viewed the footage of the incident and listened to representations by, and on behalf of, the player via video-link.

The committee decided that the offence, a dangerous "lifting" tackle contrary to Law 10.4(j), was at the low end of the IRB's scale of sanctions for this type of offence and, in imposing a two-week suspension, they applied a deterrent factor of an additional week but then reduced the sanction by three weeks, to reflect, among other factors, the player's acceptance of the red card and his previous excellent disciplinary record.

Tom Court is therefore suspended until midnight on Sunday 18 May and has the right of appeal.
2 Week ban although the adding and taking away of weeks don't add up.

Once again a - the referee was right in the letter of the laws but not the spirit of the game. We back our referee so have 2 weeks off like Jared

I'm still not at peace with the idea that Kearney gets nothing. Really not happy with that.

That's ballix Russ. Of course they back their referee, because he was right as you said in your first sentence.

They clearly took off one week for Tom being nice not three.

I'd appeal on the basis of their maths, if nothing else.

3+1-3=2 ???

Maybe it's a new form of disciplinary BODMAS?

Bracket
Order (Ulster players from the field and ensuing important games)
Divide / Multiply
Add / Subtract

That was my thinking as well so if the match was on Saturday he would be available
In effect they have given him a 3 week ban

Should be for matches rather than weeks at the lower end not that that would help TC.

Do bans not take effect from the Monday following the offence, to take into account different match days over the weekend?
