Anthem at Irish game

Post by Rne »

Do they normally player the soldier's song before the game? If I'm not mistaken they played it twice today. If so, why?

i dont know but i noticed that Rory Best kept his mouth shut during "ireland call" - i understand if they dont want to sing the soldiers song but i thought "irelands call" was supposed to be a compromise for all

they play the first two lines as the presidential salute when Mary McAlese first arrives. Then they play the full anthem between the visitors anthem and Ireland's call. It is always the same.

Didn't they play it for McAlese coming out to meet the players? Well a bit of it anyway.

The first and last two lines are played as this is the Presidential Salute, it was given a blast as she came out on the pitch.

...this has been debated ad nauseam before. rather than open a new thread take a trawl through the old international posts and see what you find.

There was a tremendous rendition of Ireland's Call, at least where I was in the Cusack Stand.

Yeah Irelands call definitly seemed to be sung with more oomph. Maybe because more people knew the words? Fields of Athenry didn't sound as depressing as usual.
