Second hand bike?

Post by Muddy Bless »

Due to current credit crunch (Im beginning to hate that phrase) not to mention my desire to do my bit for planet earth, I would like to buy me a good oul bycycle to get me (probably quite slowly) from A to B.

I was wondering if anyone knows where aomeone can get a reasonable bike (preferably a road bike) at a reasonable price.... Second hand would be ideal. Im afraid paying £1200 for two wheels made me wonder if going 'green' would be worth it!

Also if anyone has any pink lycra that they dont need any more? I figure if im to become a 'Cyclist' i might as well do it properly.

I'd say have a look on ebay for bikes within your budget, and post up some links here and we'll take a look :thumright:

Or maybe your employer runs a cycle to work scheme where you can get a new bike you pay off interest free, and before tax giving a significant saving.

I wouldn't recommend buying a bike without trying it out first.

You can't totally rely on frame sizes as different makes of bike have different frame geometry so the right frame size on one make may not be the same as another.

Most bike shops have got sales at the moment as they are trying to get rid of last years models, so I'd try a few shops to see if you can do a deal.

£1200 will get you a carbon fibre bike... a wee bit overkill for casual use, however for a new road bike, I wouldn't get one less than about £350-£400 if you want something decent... then you need to get accessories... lights, lock, clothes etc as well.

Forget lycra... baggies are where it's at!

ps. loads of second hand bikes for sale have been stolen and then sold on so beware of a bargain... and I've also heard the police do auctions of items they have seized, including bikes, but I don't know if the PSNI do this.

I am wanting to get Junior a bike as he keeps his good bike over in Newcastle.

Wanting to spend about £50 and it just has to be an average bike that wud suit a 6 foot tall 21 year old male with
a few gears and brakes and preferably not bright pink. Its just for cycing to CI/Tescos/Holywood etc , not road racing or anything.

Either post details here or send PM.

and make it quick cause think JJB will have a new bike in their sale for bout £90 soon which i mite just splash out on
as he is me only son etc etc.

well he hasnt passed the drivng test yet so even if i did have more money than sense there aint much point buying him a car. I shud add that he hasnt failed the driving test either. Just makes use of me, his mom, his girlfriend, his mates, grandparents , buses and taxis and my bike - which is why i want 2 get him a second hand bike.
