Re: Any word on the Academy?
Ulster clubs were leading Connacht at one stage then Co conceded two tries when capt was yc'd. Spoilt the game as a contest.
U18 was a v young side. Loads of u18 playing in u19's. Not sure why that is a good idea. In previous years all the best 18's play u18. Leinster deserved it although a few Ulster players kept making uncharacteristic errors which helped Leinster.

Well there were quite a number of u19s missing for some reason and a handful of u18s with the 7s, Jude Postlethwaite, Conor McKee, Charlie Worth and Ben Noxham.Knows nothing wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:25 pm Ulster clubs were leading Connacht at one stage then Co conceded two tries when capt was yc'd. Re: Any word on the Academy?
Watched the video of the Ulster schools game --- extremely poor game but really not surprised -- the players haven't played a game since March -- the 5 metre defence was unorganised and to some extent half hearted .
Nothing could be assessed either collectively or individually from the game other than 5 metres from the line the team with the ball has at school level a great advantage.

They played and defeated Italy u18 about two weeks ago: https://thefrontrowunion.com/2019/08/ul ... nst-italy/
Also I believe they played a warm up game against the u18 "clubs" side
I'd suggest you are grasping at straws to excuse a poor result against leinster.
They play munster today, we shall see how they get on then.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
There was no game against clubs side. Just Italy u18. By contrast Leinster played Italy, Clubs and away to Northampton so you might have a point Rum.Bayern wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:44 amrumncoke wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 9:07 am Watched the video of the Ulster schools game --- extremely poor game but really not surprised -- the players haven't played a game since March -- the 5 metre defence was unorganised and to some extent half hearted .

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Or Leinster have a more talented group, wouldn't be the first time that happened..
so if schools lose today? it's because they are still undercooked or will it be something else?
and if they win, of course that will only further underline that the only reason they lost to leinster was being undercooked.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Two games in 4 months from a select of players spread over 9 counties . Leinster most of the players are within or close to the Pale .
The school coaching is also superior because players are coached to develop as players rather than developed to suit the needs of their school 15
But the fact remains it was basically a one strategy game by both sides — plAy to get with in the 5 metre zone - and play crash ball against a disorganised and half hearted defence

Re: Any word on the Academy?
No need to be silly now. Obviously Leinster were the better team, that goes without saying. The other reason is because more than half of the squad are a year young.Bayern wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 11:05 am Or Leinster have a more talented group, wouldn't be the first time that happened..

Better centre partnership today.
